Pool Resurfacing Cost Estimator

Estimate the total cost to resurface your swimming pool based on pool dimensions, shape, and your choice of finish material. Includes surface area calculation, material costs, and labor estimates.

Formulas Used

Total Wetted Surface Area:

  • Total Surface Area = Floor Area + Wall Area + Step Area

Shape Multipliers: Rectangular = 1.00 | Oval/Kidney = 0.85 | L-Shape = 0.75 | Freeform = 0.90

Oval Perimeter uses Ramanujan's approximation: π(a+b)[1 + 3h/(10+√(4−3h))] where h = ((a−b)/(a+b))²

Base Resurfacing Cost = Total Surface Area × Finish Cost/sq ft × Condition Multiplier

Condition Multipliers: Good = 1.00× | Fair = 1.15× | Poor = 1.35×

Total Cost = Base Cost + Surface Prep + Drain/Refill + Waterline Tile + Main Drain (if selected)

Assumptions & References

  • Standard Plaster (Marcite): $5–$8/sq ft installed; lifespan 7–12 years.
  • Quartz Aggregate: $7–$11/sq ft installed; lifespan 12–17 years.
  • Pebble / Exposed Aggregate: $10–$16/sq ft installed; lifespan 15–25 years.
  • Fiberglass Gelcoat: $6–$10/sq ft installed; lifespan 15–25 years (fiberglass pools only).
